Questions and Answers

What is your day job?

I am the community and portfolio manager with ID Ventures, the venture capital arm of Invest Detroit. ID Ventures scales promising early-stage ventures into thriving companies that help support the state’s economy, provide jobs to local talent, and bolster Michigan’s growing startup community.

Why do you enjoy what you do?

We are a passionate team of experts deeply committed to growing and strengthening Michigan’s startup ecosystem. Whether working with our portfolio of 108 startups or the greater ecosystem, helping to make connections, provide access to support and opportunities, and promoting our ecosystem success in the state of Michigan are the things that drive me every day.

How has your participation in MedHealth initiatives, such as steering committees, matchmaking events, and working groups, benefited you and your organization?

With 40 percent of our portfolio in healthcare IT and life science, the opportunity to work with a diverse, cross-border group of healthcare professionals has been so enlightening. MedHealth has been able to bring together a variety of connections, opportunities, and exposure. My participation on the steering committee has enabled me to share important opportunities and developments with some amazing startups.

What is one thing in healthcare that you’re excited about in the next five years?

The global pandemic has brought many inefficiencies in healthcare to light. Digital health has come to the forefront as more efficient and sustainable, enabling healthcare to be delivered in an affordable, equitable, and quality way.

If you could choose anyone as a mentor, who would you choose?

How fortunate that we have so many amazing mentors in the state of Michigan who are dedicated to serving others, making a positive impact, and leading by example. Every mentor in my journey has been a serendipitous occurrence, which makes it difficult to choose. I look forward to who the world has in mind.

What’s one thing—either industry related or not—you learned in the last month?

Web3, blockchain, and cryptocurrency are very confusing. More research to be done.
